Environmental Stewardship

At Rock Lake Ranch, environmental stewardship is one of our core values. The landscape of post oak trees scattered over gently rolling hills and a sunset reflecting over the lake is utterly breathtaking. This is one of the many things that make the ranch so special. Therefore, protecting the vitality of the land and wildlife is of utmost importance.
As a fully functioning ranch, we strive to balance stewardship with the practical aspects of comfort and utility. The “cattle quarter” is a large pasture where the cows have ample room to feed and roam. By allotting a large area with a moderate number of cattle, we make sure the land is not overgrazed. By doing this as well as incorporating other environmentally sensitive methods, we aim to practice responsible ranching.

Minimizing our impact on nature is very important to us, and as stewards of the environment, our efforts extend beyond the ranch fence. During the summer, we enjoy using both home-grown and wild fruit to make our own jam. We also take pride in growing fruits and vegetables in our garden, using our own beef, and producing our own Rock Lake Ranch honey. By using locally produced food, we are able to reduce our carbon footprint.

At Rock Lake Ranch, we hope to keep exploring new ways of increasing our sustainability practices so that we can continue to include our environmental ethic in the day-to-day functioning at our ranch.
